Bullying
Teasing during elementary school, bullying in middle school or even abuse during high school can create a level of mental stress in children that they are not yet developmentally equipped to deal with.
The affects of bullying on your child can be quite devastating. It doesn’t matter whether the bullying takes the form of fighting or name-calling, the results are equally negative. Victimization by a bully can result in depression, withdrawal, outbursts, suicide attempts, and long-term damage to a child’s self-worth. It can easily detract from your child’s ability to get the education that he or she is entitled to. School anti-bullying laws were put in effect to help prevent this from happening.
In Illinois, bullying laws require schools to provide a safe environment for all kids. It is the school’s responsibility to protect children from being physically or verbally abused by other students or staff members. If your child has been the victim of bullying and you do not believe the school is working appropriately to stop it, give me a call.
