Special Education
Parents and Guardians of children with special-needs often times face challenges in ensuring that their child receive the educational services they need and deserve.
Whether your child is having a challenging time at school and you believe he or she may require special treatment or your child has an individual education plan (IEP) or section 504 plan that you feel is insufficient or that has not been properly implemented, you may need my services. The law affords specific rights for students with disabilities between the ages of three and twenty-one. I am committed to enable parents to actively and effectively advocate for their children.
Special education law is complex. Individuals with developmental, physical and/or learning disabilities often experience difficulties in a variety of areas that affect their educational experience. Due process, equal protection, and both state and federal special education laws require that every student have access to a free and appropriate public education, referred to as FAPE. I will work with parents to help secure appropriate special education services that address the unique needs of a child with a disability. In this regard, I am committed to resolving disputes at the earliest practical time necessary to achieve the goal of an appropriate education. However, in order to fully achieve the goals of an appropriate education in the least restrictive environment that a student is entitled to may require pursuing the matter beyond mediation and the Due Process Hearing and require litigation in the courts. If litigation turns out to be necessary, I will be able to advocate effectively on your behalf.
